My superpower…

Today’s blog prompt from Designs In Digital is “What would you want your superpower to be?” I actually would love to be able to turn invisible at will, but the superpower test says otherwise…

Your Superpower Should Be Manipulating Electricity

You’re highly reactive, energetic, and super charged. If the occasion calls for it, you can go from 0 to 60 in a split second.

But you don’t harness your energy unless you truly need to.

And because of this, people are often surprised by what you are capable of.Why you would be a good superhero: You have the stamina to fight enemies for days

Your biggest problem as a superhero: As with your normal life, people would continue to underestimate you

What Should Your Superpower Be?

Something I want to learn…

For years, now, I have wanted to learn to play the cello. I took 5 years of piano lessons as a child and have had the pleasure of re-learning over the last 2 years, kind of teaching my self and practicing a lot. I have a small keyboard at home and I also play at church, so I can practice for free. However, I do not have a cello, nor can I afford to buy or rent one, so until I can, I get to listen to cello music and just wonder what it would be like to actually know how to play one…

8/22…. Today we are supposed to show our favorite layout – something we have created that we are proud of… here is mine: (click on it to see it larger)

It is my favorite because it brings out how much I love my son, and how proud I am of him. I worked on this LO for such a long time – I think it was a whole two week s – trying to get it just perfect.

8/21…. Something in the room that is good, bad, and curious… I choose the big plastic container of photos and mementos sitting behind me… GOOD – well it contains so many photos that I need to scrap, wonderful photos of the past 20 years or so that I have been placing photos as I find them around the house. Not to mention the other 10 boxes of photos in my hall closet… ugh… the BAD – well, it has been staring me down for years, begging me to pay more attention to it, begging me to dive right in and have a go at scrapping each and every photo and souvenir, not caring if I have the time or energy, sort of haunting me… double ugh! the CURIOUS – I’m not even sure what exactly is in there… kind of scared to take a look actually! I don’t know if it has happy, sad, or other connotations, so I am quite curious as to what I will find in this large box of “stuff… oh well, might as well put it off some more….

How many houses have you lived in… (blog prompt for 8/20)

Wow – this got me thinking! I will start with the first home I ever lived in -

#1 –  in Phoenix, Arizona on 32nd avenue. That’s where my family lived a few years before I was born up until I was 6

#2 – then we moved to Wilmington, North Carolina for 2 years, in a beautiful home on a very large lot with a forest behind us.

#3 – Then we moved to Mentor, Ohio, as my dad had to get a new job. We lived in a large, old haunted house, with only 1 bathroom and 8 of us! It was fun, though!

#4 – then after just 9 months, we moved to Santee (San Diego) California, (1970) and my mother still lives in the same house! I moved out when I got married though….

#5 – my 1st husband and I moved into a small home in Clairemont (still in San Diego county) for only 3 months… ugh

#6 – Then we moved in with his parents (double ugh) in University City (still in San Diego county) for about 6 months until they moved to Hawaii and begged us to come with them. So…..

#7 – We moved in with his uncle in Kailua, Hawaii until we found our own apartment 3 months later…

#8 – We lived in Hawaii Kai for about 6 months until my ex decided he did not want to be married any more…. (triple ugh)

#9, #10, #11, #12 - back to mom’s in Santee, back to Hawaii, back to Mom’s house, back to Hawaii (sorry – story is too long to tell here!)

#13 – OK – back to Santee – but in our own apartment until 1984 - until we got a divorce in 1986 - then….

#14 – back to mom’s (ugh) It was nice, though, to have a built-in babysitter!

#15 – My very first apartment as a single person!!! Until 1989, when I remarried (to the RIGHT person!)

#16 – We outgrew our 2 bedroom apt – so we moved to El Cajon into a 3 bedroom townhouse.

#17 – Moved back in with mom so we could save to buy a house (only 8 months!)

#18 – YAY – we bought our very first house! Lakeside, California – 4 bedroom, 2 baths, 1,350 square feet of house. We lived here for 11 years until the neighborhood was getting run down and we felt inclined to move into a larger home in a nicer area!

#19 – Finally!!! My current home – We moved to Murrieta, California in 2002, to our very large 5 bedroom, 4 bathrooms, 3,732 square feet home – we love it here and hope to stay here for a long time – at least until we are empty-nesters!!!

Rainy days…

I love to scrap on rainy days – or design. There are so many things I would LOVE to be doing, that I would never get bored! I could read, watch TV, play games, make cookies, play computer games, clean up, have long talks with my DH and kids, plan my next vacation, sit on the front porch and watch the rain, catch up on the laundry, write letters, send email, do genealogy, paint, cook, exercise, sleep, etc. All the things I need and want to get done!

Thanks for the prompt, Cherie!

My Dream Vacation!

Great topic!  Thanks for the blog prompt, Cherie (Cherie Shields from Designs In Digital)

I need a vacation so bad… First, I would click on the “Pay-Cations” page on my blog so I could go to my very own travel booking website and book my travel for a discount price! Then, I know exactly where I would go, especially if money and time were no problems for me…

You see, there is a World Cruise, for 62 days, that starts in Iceland, cruises down the east coast of Canada, United States, around the Caribbean for a week, through the Panama Canal, down the west coast of South America, to the Antartica!!! Can you just imagine what fun this would be!!! I could sure get use to having my food prepared for me and my cabin cleaned for me daily and have no worries, except maybe what I am going to eat or wear for the day! I would take the most fantastic pictures and have my laptop with me so I could scrap in the down times. I would have my family with me, and I hope they would all be able to come with me for that long! We would have the big cabins with decks and ocean views, and live like kings and queens for 2 months!

What a fantastic way to see the world! And when we are ready to go on another vacation, we would take a cruise around the other half of the world, Asia, Polynesia, Australia….. Ah, what a life it would be!

My favorite pet (blog prompt for today)

I have had many pets throughout my life, but my first pet was a dachshund named Butchy. We had him for years before he was hit by a car and died. Then, I had a few cats here and there, and when I was 12, we got a German Shepard named Molly. She was the best dog I’ve ever known. She love kids and would play very gently with all of us. She was still a great watchdog, though. Years later, after we were married, we continued to get German Shepards. We’ve had 4; Maile, Pele, Kahuna, and a police dog of my husbands from work. We don’t have a dog at the moment, as our last dog died 3 years ago. It’s been hard to think about getting another dog since then. We have had a few other pets that belonged to my grandson, though; 2 hamsters, 2 lizards and numerous fish. It’s just been quiet here without a pet for the last year. Maybe it’s time to think about adding another one to the family.

What is my very first memory?

I believe I was 2 years old and every-time my family would come for a visit, I would hold out my hand and they would give me coins. I remember walking around the room with my hand stretched out receiving coins from everyone. They would all just laugh and laugh at me as I got excited about the money. I also had 4 older brothers who would tease me endlessly, so I remember a lot of times when they would swing me around, toss me back and forth, take me for rides on their bikes, sit me at the piano and tell me to play, all the things like that. I also vividly remember the day my mom brought my baby sister home from the hospital, I had just turned 2 and all of a sudden, all the attention was on her… hey – wait a minute… what about me??? From that day on, most of the attention was on here until around my pre-teen years, then it seemed that I was pretty spoiled after that. I have memories of long car trips when I would sit in my makeshift car seat on the way to visit my grandparents from Phoenix, AZ to Scottsdale, AZ… seems like days to me, but it was only about an hour or so drive….

Blog prompt for 8-15… (see below for weekly freebie!)

The internet has changed my life significantly over the last 16 years since I have been using it. I remember back in the day using Prodigy and some other browsers when we had dial-up when the internet was brand new. Today, though, my work is internet based, so I can see what has evolved over the years from being a web surfer and email enthusiest, to being a “dot commer” and graphic designer who sells her designs on the web! Who would have ever thunk it?! My whole family is on the internet daily, checking email and forums and my DH’s work is also an online business, so we are always online! We have 7 computers set up in our home, most sharing on a wireless router, and all set up to print on any of our 6 printers, scan on a few different scanners, etc. We have 2 working offices in our home, one with 2 computers, one with 3, and 1 in the kitchen and 1 mobile laptop. Wow, we are so WIRED!!!

Blog prompts…

Today (8-14-07)

My favorite holiday here in the US is the 4th of July, which is our Independence Day. I love the festivities which include fireworks, barbecues, beach parties, all day fun, usually getting a sunburn, sitting around the fire ring at the beach, etc. I love the feeling of patriotism that surrounds the whole day. This year, we went to the Padre’s baseball game in San Diego and after the game, we watched the fantastic fireworks show, synchronized to patriotic music. I always cry when I hear that music, because my dad was the most patriotic person I know, and I miss him so much. He loved all that wonderful music as well as the holiday itself. No one can ever take this holiday away from me, because it is a part of my heritage and it is the foundation of our country.

Yesterday (8-13-07)

My favorite job would have to have been when I worked at a pharmaceutical company. I was a computer programmer and worked specifically on the robotic system in the lab. I loved learning about science and doing the practical application of science along with computers. The robot was a challenge, but I learned so much and had so much fun. That job paid very well, I made a lot of great people, learned so much, but the drawbacks were the long commute and being away from my family for so long each day. I stayed there for 2 1/2 years before I decided that I needed to be home with the kids.

Digi-scrapping is like………. (blog prompt)

Digi-scrapping is like a form of therapy for me. But, it is also very much more than that…. it is the preferred way for me to preserve the history of my family, it is a form of communication between me and those who view my layouts, it is a way to introduce my creativity, a way of creating something out of virtually nothing. To me, digiscrapping is a universal art form, that anyone and everyone can do. It is art, and therefore still subjective, but to the artist, it is always beautiful! I think about my children’s children and beyond, and what I am leaving for them are actual pieces of their heritage, their past, and it is my gift to them.

Blog prompts (the last 2)

Well, I have been having some computer issues here so I have not posted my blog prompts in a timely manner, so here goes for the last 2!

8/10/07

What do you sense you’re supposed to do before your life is over?

Well, I think my greatest role here on earth is to be a mother and a teacher, to make the lives of others better, to ensure that all five of my children and their children are made better and richer because of the things I have taught them or have done for them. I love my children more than anything in the world, and I continue to seek opportunities to enrich their lives by exposing them to creative arts, helping them develop talents, teaching them to share and help others, etc. This is one of my goals in life, to make sure that others come first. I know that God uses people to do his works, and to tend to others in need. The feeling I get from doing service for others is one of the best feelings ever. I want my children to feel that way, too, or at least know the feeling of helping others.

What are 2 everyday items you can’t live without?

Wow – I would have to say my computer and my car. Without those 2 items, I would feel totally cut off from the rest of the world! Actually, they are the 2 items that I use the most – everyday – and now I feel like a spoiled brat for bringing it up… The only other thing I can think of not being able to live without is my bathroom!!!

Today’s Blog Prompt….

What would you do with an extra $100 a week?

Well, to start off, I would be able to pay off some lingering bills that have been around for a while! Then, when those are payed off, I would be able to buy some of the things listed on my Kaboodle list!! Always buying scrapping things, isn’t that pathetic? Then, I would go to the mall and buy me a new pair of shoes!!! Maybe even visit a day spa to pamper myself!!!

Then, after I’m done being selfish for a few weeks, I would help my DD with setting up her nursery for the new baby coming in January, and hepl my son with his schooling. After a few months of spending, I would just put it all in a savings account!!!
